Health and Safety
Copán Ruinas is a safe and peaceful town, and we want you to feel comfortable and well prepared during your visit. Here are a few tips to help you stay healthy and relaxed:
Essentials
Bug spray is a must, especially in the evenings. Mosquitoes love the warm climate
Use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth (avoid tap water)
Wear sunscreen during the day. The sun is strong even if it’s overcast
Pack any personal medications, especially anything prescription or hard to find abroad
Consider bringing basic first aid items: band aids, pain reliever, anti diarrheal, allergy meds, etc.
If you’re prone to motion sickness, the drive to Copán has curvy roads, pack dramamine or ginger chews just in case.
Hand sanitizer and wipes are great for excursions or bathroom stops on the drive
Vaccines & Health Guidelines
No vaccines are required to enter Honduras
The CDC recommends routine vaccinations (MMR, Tetanus, etc.) and optional Hepatitis A and Typhoid for travel to rural area
Always check with your doctor if you’re unsure or have specific health concerns
Emergency Care
Copán has a local clinic and pharmacy, and your hotel can help you get medical attention if needed
Our family will also be nearby throughout the trip to help with anything unexpected
